JYmusicgroup@gmail.comAbout Producer J.Y.: Producer/ Songwriter/Artist Jamil “JY” Young is a native of the D.M.V area. His passion for music became alive when he saw Michael Jackson in the made-for-TV movie, the “American Dream” about the Jackson 5. At the age of 8 he began saving his weekly allowance and bought his first keyboard. He studied piano in high school and participated in several talent shows singing with JusSoul.
While majoring in music at Morgan State University, he met his mentor, producer/engineer Jamil “Face” Johnson, who introduced him to the production side of the business. He made the tough but rewarding decision to attend Omega Recording Institute to focus solely on the business of music earning a certification in 2006. The following year he started a production company called J.Y. Music Group, LLC under which he wrote and executive produced Willie Blount’s début album “Therapeutic”. The single from that album by the same name Therapeutic allowed music lovers everywhere the opportunity to hear his music because it was played on mainstream radio. With the help of Face, and notoriety from the album, he began working with recording artists such as Tanya Blount,
Raheem Devaughn,
Phil Ade,
Wale, Que (formerly of Day 26), record executive Cliff Jones and others.
In 2009, he was honored and blessed to meet Ishmael Ford-Bey (C.E.O. of Gangster Chronicles Music), where he was given the opportunity to become one of the in-house producers working with artists such as 30/30, Villain Style, Ms. Xela and Prop and producing the hits “Rock 2 Da Beat” and “New Money.” Under the guidance and leadership of Ishmael, J.Y. has become one of DMV’s top producers and looks to distinguish himself from other arrangers and composers with his sequential elements and melodic sounds.
